Why another citation generator
Most citation tools give you a formatted string and no way to tell whether it is right. The rules they encode are invisible, and the fussy details are exactly where styles differ: APA uses an ampersand inside parentheses but the word “and” in running text; MLA switches to “et al.” at three authors while IEEE waits until seven; Chicago changes the author's name order and the punctuation around the publisher depending on whether you are writing a footnote or a bibliography entry.
Every rule used here is transcribed from a published style authority, cited on the page it affects with the edition and the date it was retrieved. The regression suite reproduces those sources' own worked examples verbatim, so if a formatting change ever stopped matching a real published citation, the tests fail before the change ships.
That approach also decides what is not here. AMA, ACS, Harvard and Vancouver are missing because authoritative rule text for them could not be retrieved when the site was built — and a citation format that is subtly wrong is worse than one that is honestly absent.
